I won't spend any time explaining how to get through the firewall or the special settings you need to apply to nf to make it happen, you need to bind the IP address of the website's "server" to the virtual host name in the "hosts" file on your client PC.
WAMP SERVER VIRTUAL HOST PC
Where virtual hosts become useful is when you have a website on a PC in a LAN and you want to access it from another computer on the LAN. So, who cares? If you can't remember localhost/mysite as the URL for "JoesGarage" then bookmark the URL. Let's say you create a website in the folder C:\wamp64\Let's say you assign the folder to the virtual host JoesGarage, you can then access the same site by typing JoesGarage as the URL.

Why is this relevant when we're talking about virtual hosts? I'll come to that in a minute.
WAMP SERVER VIRTUAL HOST WINDOWS
This is tricky to do in a Windows environment it's next-to-impossible to do with iPads connected through the LAN (unless you "jail-break" them). To do that you need to have a LAN and allow access between the server and the clients through whatever firewall may be in place. One of the main problems I've had with these PC-based webservers is to try to mimic what happens when two people simultaneously try to do something on a website. I discussed this at length in viewtopic.php?t=925348 While PC-based websites are good for some things, they don't actually prove anything. I'm not enthusiastic about using xAMP x or Wampserver products because the PC environment is never the same as the real world. For nearly as long as I've been using J!, I had an idea of using a PC-based webserver as a testbed/development area. Return to the WAMPServer menu, go back to the Virtual Host options and you will see your site listed thereĪccess the site as instead of (without a virtual host) It was rather timely that I saw this topic because I spent the whole day yesterday messing around with Wampserver over the LAN and I hit this issue, too.
